Alfonso Waller, MD, is a professor and the Director of Cardiac Imaging in the Department of Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. He earned his MD from St. George's University School of Medicine in 2006 and his BA from New York University in 2002. Dr. Waller specializes in cardiac imaging, with a focus on the use of positron emission tomography (PET) for the assessment of myocardial inflammation, cardiac sarcoidosis, and coronary artery disease. His research includes quantifying myocardial inflammation, evaluating prognostic assessments in cardiac sarcoidosis, and integrating multimodality imaging techniques such as cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, and echocardiography for pre-procedural planning and disease evaluation. He has contributed to the understanding of myocardial blood flow quantification, the role of advanced imaging in prosthetic valve endocarditis, and the assessment of artificial heart function. Dr. Waller's work emphasizes the application of imaging modalities to improve diagnosis, prognosis, and management of various cardiovascular conditions.
