About

Jonathan Bernstein is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. His plays and musicals have been produced across the country, including The Shape She Makes, created in collaboration with actress and choreographer Susan Misner, and In This House, written with Sarah Schlesinger and Mike Reid. He is currently writing and directing a play with dance titled Here In The Bright Colorado Sun under the auspices of The Jerome Robbins Foundation. Bernstein's short play At The Water’s Edge, Wet was recently syndicated nationally on the radio series Playing On Air, and he has two narrative podcasts, Ballad Of An Outlaw and Upstream, in development. His directing credits include work at prominent theaters such as the American Repertory Theater, Atlantic Theater Company, The Signature Theater, Williamstown Theater Festival, and others. He has worked in various capacities at New York’s City Center, Manhattan Theatre Club, Second Stage Theatre, Roundabout Theatre, Irish Repertory Theatre, and 52nd St. Project, where he writes, directs, and teaches. Bernstein has served as supervising director for fourteen New York productions, including eight on Broadway, overseeing notable productions such as Private Lives, The Iceman Cometh, Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?, and the musical Chicago. He is the Artistic Director of The Performing Arts Project, an international arts training intensive, and an Artistic Associate at the Eugene O’Neill Center’s National Theater Institute, where he helps create and run their musical theater training program. Additionally, he is a fan of the New York Mets.
