About

Anthony Dudo is an associate professor in the School of Advertising & Public Relations and the program director of science communication in the Center for Media Engagement. His research focuses on scientists’ public engagement activities, media representations of science and environmental issues, and the contributions of journalism and entertainment media to public perceptions of science. His recent work has examined factors influencing scientists’ likelihood to engage in public communication, how scientists identify and prioritize goals for public engagement, and the growing infrastructure of stakeholders that support scientist communicators, including science communication training, fellowship programs, professional scientific societies, and science journalists. Dudo has published more than 75 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and professional reports. He co-authored books on science communication strategy and practice, and co-edited a research yearbook on strategic communication. His research has been funded by notable organizations such as the NSF, AAAS, U.S. Department of Energy, and various foundations. He is a member of the Standing Committee for Advancing Science Communication of the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, and serves on advisory committees related to civic science. Dudo has received numerous awards for his research and teaching, including being named a Fellow of AAAS and NASEM-Kavli Frontiers of Science, as well as receiving the UT Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award and other honors. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, his M.A. at the University of Delaware, and his B.A. at Muhlenberg College. Prior to his academic career, he worked in strategic communications for the Academy of Natural Sciences.
