  • Ethyl formate diluted with nitrogen is an effective biosecurity treatment for brown marmorated stink bug ( <scp> <i>Halyomorpha halys</i> </scp> )

    Pest Management Science · 2025-12-15

    articleOpen access

Abstract BACKGROUND The brown marmorated stink bug ( Halyomorpha halys ) (BSMB) is a biosecurity threat globally. Its most likely avenue of entry is via shipping transport of a multitude of commodities. Currently employed biosecurity treatments (methyl bromide, sulfuryl fluoride) pose several concerns including climate change, environmental and occupational health and safety. Ethyl formate with dilution in carbon dioxide has been shown to be an effective biosecurity treatment for controlling BMSB. Carbon dioxide is a known synergist in fumigation and is a greenhouse gas contributing to climate change. RESULTS Laboratory and commercial‐scale bioassays were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of ethyl formate in controlling diapausing and non‐diapausing BMSB. In both trials and all treatment conditions, ethyl formate concentrations &gt;12 mg L −1 without dilution in carbon dioxide for 3‐h exposure periods were effective in achieving insect control. These results were consistent with existing literature and showed the rapid action of the fumigant in achieving a desirable level of insect mortality. The results demonstrate that even without the synergist carbon dioxide, ethyl formate can achieve complete mortality of both non‐diapausing and diapausing BSMBs at a dose rate lower than the currently registered 90 mg L −1 . CONCLUSION The results of this research show the commercial viability of ethyl formate, without dilution with carbon dioxide, as a biosecurity treatment for the control of BMSB, both non‐diapausing and diapausing. These results will also assist in progressing the registration of the fumigant with relevant National Plant Protection Organisations. © 2025 The Author(s). • Performance Evaluation of ChatGPT-4o on Korean Physical Therapist Licensing Examination

Physical therapy rehabilitation science · 2025-06-30

    articleOpen access1st authorCorresponding

Objective:The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of ChatGPT-4o on the Korean Physical Therapist Licensing Examination(KPTLE) and to explore its potential as a supplementary tool in physical therapy education and assessment.Design: Quantitative experimental study using publicly available national examination data. Methods: ChatGPT-4o was tested on 960 multiple-choice questions from the 47th to 51st KPTLE, withoutany provision of source or domain-specific information.Correct answer rates and pass/fail status were assessed.Additionally, its performance was compared with that of examinees who passed the same examinations.Statistical analyses included one-sample t-tests, effect size calculationsusing Cohen's d. and percentile rankings. Results: ChatGPT-4o achieved an average correct answer rate of 88.9%, consistently exceeding the passing criteria across all years.Compared to students who passed the same examinations, ChatGPT-4o performed significantly better in overall and subject-specific scores (p 0.001), with large effect sizes (Cohen's d 0.8) and top percentile rankings.Although its performance in the medical law section was relatively poor, the overall results indicated stable and strong performance. Conclusions: ChatGPT-4o demonstrated sufficient domain knowledge to pass the written KPTLE often surpassing human examinee performance in standardized multiple-choice formats. These findings suggest the potential for its use in theoretical education and physical therapy assessments.Additional, further research is required to assess its applicability in testing practical skills and real-world clinical environments, particularly given the limitations inherent in current language models.

  • A 99.93% Peak Current Efficiency Digital-LDO using Single VCO With Dual Frequency Gain Control

JSTS Journal of Semiconductor Technology and Science · 2024-12-31

    article

The proposed digital low-dropout voltage regulator (DLDO) automatically controls clock frequency based on the difference between the reference and feedback voltage. Enabling adaptive frequency regulation during voltage ringing events, and thus assisting rapid transient response. Unlike prior approaches utilizing two voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) to generate frequencies for controlling pass gates, this work employs a single VCO, reducing the need for VCO control voltage pins. The proposed DLDO regulates the output at 1 V from a 1.2 V supply and has been implemented based on a 65 nm CMOS process. The transient time is 782 ns, a power efficiency of 99.93%, and the FOM is 15 fs.

  • A High Power Supply Rejection and Fast-transient LDO with Feed-forward Compensation using Current Sensing Technique

JSTS Journal of Semiconductor Technology and Science · 2024-02-29

This paper presents a high power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) and a method to achieve stability for low-dropout (LDO) regulators, an essential system-on-chip (SoC) component. The feedforward method improves the PSRR in the LDO regulator by adjusting the output voltage with a compensation signal which is proportional to the power supply noise. Also, the proposed current sensing is incorporated into the LDO regulator

  • Advances and challenges in dynamic photo-induced force microscopy

    Discover Nano · 2024-11-21 · 7 citations

    reviewOpen access

Photo-induced force microscopy (PiFM) represents a scanning probe technique renowned for its ability to provide high-resolution spectroscopic imaging at the nanoscale. It capitalizes on the amplification of tip motion by photo-induced forces, which are influenced by the response of the local medium, spanning from induced dipole interactions to thermal expansion. The behaviors of these force responses exhibit complexity in connection with both far-field and near-field effects, depending on their spectroscopic origins. In this review, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of prior research endeavors, shedding light on their technical intricacies. We provide the perspectives of photo-induced dipole force and photo-induced thermal force, while exploring the dynamic PiFM modes associated with each scenario. Our article targets individuals newly venturing into this field, offering a blend of theoretical foundations and practical demonstrations covering a range from fundamental principles to advanced topics.
