About
Daniel Little is a professor of sociology at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, with a courtesy appointment at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy. He also holds research appointments in the Center for Chinese Studies, ICPSR, and the Center for Complex Systems. Little is a philosopher of the social sciences with extensive interdisciplinary experience and has served as the former chancellor of the University of Michigan-Dearborn, where he is also a professor of philosophy. His research interests include the organizational causes of disaster, government decision-making in high-energy physics, and twentieth-century challenges to the philosophy of history. Little has authored several books, including The Paradox of Wealth and Poverty: Mapping the Ethical Dilemmas of Global Development, New Contributions to the Philosophy of History, New Directions in the Philosophy of Social Science, and A New Social Ontology of Government. He received his undergraduate degrees in mathematics and philosophy from the University of Illinois in 1971 and his PhD in philosophy from Harvard University in 1977.
